Digging for joy

I think of clutter busting as digging for joy.

We're rooting through our stuff, going through piles, and tossing out things that just don't fit anymore. But the whole purpose behind it is to be happier.

I encourage this perspective of digging for joy with clients because there's often a great fear on their part that it's going to hurt. There's going to be pain in the letting go, and that becomes foremost in their thoughts. Actually, that's what kept them from starting in the first place.

Maybe there's going to be some feelings of roughness during the process; some strong emotions felt, some sadness, some anger. But behind that and supporting the whole process is the feeling of relief. That relief is the joy.

I encourage you to take some time for yourself this weekend and do some digging for joy in your stuff.
