Removing Things that Make Us Uncomfortable

I helped my client clutter bust her storage locker in the apartment's basement. We came across a smelly old rug that was roughly wrapped in plastic. She made the grimace face.

My client said, "It's an old rug that my cats had peed on a long time ago...I don't want to have it cleaned."

I asked her if she wanted to let the rug go.

She wasn't sure. She said, "It doesn't bother me that much."

I said, "As long as you say bother in a sentence about something, it's having a negative effect on you."

That sobered her up. She and I dragged the smelly carpet to the apartment's dumpster.

My client said, "I feel physically relieved!"
