Last week I did my first in-home clutter busting job in over a year! I was flown to Los Angeles to appear as a guest on a TV show called Raising Whitley on the Oprah Winfrey Network. The producer of the show had read my first book and is a fan of the blog. She wanted me to help Kim Whitley, the star of the show, go through her things and help her let go of what wasn't serving her.
I had been thinking that I wouldn't do any in-home more clutter busts because certain jobs had caused me to get a lung disease and were the reason I got a double lung transplant four months ago. But I rethought about it, and I realized that those jobs had been obvious health hazards. I knew I would be okay if I avoided similar dire situations.
Kim's place was not a dangerous space for me. Certain areas were piled with things she felt too overwhelmed to deal with. I explained to her that by kindly approaching those spaces and just considering one thing at a time, she would be able to think clearly enough to make good decisions about what could go.
Kim gave it a try and she was surprised that she could tell what wasn't right in her space. It's amazing what we can do when we are gentle with ourselves. We clutter busted one room and she was confident she could continue on her own with the rest of her house. The show will air in February. I will let you know when it's on!
